Moses’ cradle, also known as peace lilies, is one of the most attractive houseplants. It has green stems that can reach up to a meter in height. Its flowers are white, the leaf is almost transparent and has the shape of the tip of a spear that surrounds a spike.

Its biggest advantage is that it hardly needs light to grow, which makes it very easy to care for for people who want a plant but don’t want to take care of it so much. In any case, some care is necessary for Moses’ cradle to develop and flourish.

Below, I give you some tips so that you can have this plant in your home and it will last for a long time.

1. Temperature

Let us remember that this plant is native to tropical environments , so we must place it in a place protected from low temperatures. It should not be exposed to temperatures below 18 °C or frost. If it is in the garden or balcony, the best thing we can do is move it indoors.

In addition, it is not a plant resistant to drafts , so it should not be near windows or passageways.

2. Light

It can receive light for a certain time, and if it is a hot season, preferably through a filter or screen , but not directly. If this happens, the leaves will turn yellow and fall off.

But this does not mean that it does not receive light. If it spends too much time in the shade, it may never bloom.

3. Irrigation

In hot weather, Moses’ crib needs daily watering. It is important that the soil has constant moisture , but that puddles never form. If this happens, the roots will not be able to breathe and the plant will wilt over time.

With low temperatures, we have to space out watering and do it only when we notice the soil is dry. It is a plant that needs moisture, so it is not advisable for the soil to be dry for a long time.

4. Fertilizer

It is important to renew the nutrients in the soil. The plant feeds on them. But, as with water, we should not overdo it.

Moses’ cradle does not need much food so fertilization should be spaced out. We can boost its growth if we apply fertilizer during the flowering season , which is when the plant needs nutrients the most. I recommend that the fertilizer be rich in nitrogen.

Excess fertilizer can damage the roots, so I suggest you read the instructions carefully, and if you are not sure, use a small amount.

5. Transplant

In spring the roots may begin to emerge from the drainage holes in the pot. We have to transplant it into a pot a few centimeters larger in circumference so that the roots develop and the plant grows better.

At the same time, it is important that the pot is not much larger than the plant , otherwise it could affect growth.

If you are going to transplant it in the garden, you should do it when the minimum temperature is around 18 °C, and you should place it under the shade of a tree or in a place that does not receive direct sunlight. The chosen location must also maintain natural humidity.
